About Umami

Umami is a japanese in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is listed at 202 38th St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201, which places it among the local businesses of Pittsburgh that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Pittsburgh, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across Pennsylvania run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Pittsburgh is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Had a great first time at Umami with my boyfriend. We both were super happy that we were able to get last minute reservations to this place as I heard it was some of the best sushi in Pittsburgh. The food and drinks absolutely blew us away… the sushi was so fresh and delicate and the broth from the ramen was packed with flavor. The drinks were inventive and strong which I loved. Upon ordering my second drink however me and our waitress had a decent conversation on what was popular and what I should try…as soon as I ordered we were given a voucher where it was $2 dollars off drinks. Unfortunately we were not eligible for the $2 dollars off drinks because I had ordered just seconds before. I felt like the waitress should have let us know about that however I understand that it might have slipped her mind. Overall it was a really good experience and I do recommend going.

After carefully walking up the scary 2 flight staircase, we had a pleasant experience. The chicken was delicious. The egg skewers were worth the money but lacked an exotic taste. I had the house old fashioned, which was thick and sweet. The bar tender gave us great recommendations.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re looking for a spot that’s actually worth the money… Umami Japanese Restaurant did NOT disappoint. We ordered a mix of everything🀀 Blood orange Pork Chop, nigiri, chirashi, pork belly & chicken thigh skewers and cocktails❀️‍πŸ”₯ every single plate was top tier! The flavors were super fresh, well-balanced, & you can tell they really care about quality. The pork chop was juicy with that perfect char on a bed of funnel & pear shreds. The chirashi bowl was BEAUTIFUL, fresh cuts of fish, generous portions, and just overall chef’s kiss πŸ’‹ Even the smaller bites like nigiri were done perfectly. Cocktails were just as good (and fun names too πŸ‘€). Everything came out looking like a full experience, not just a meal. Not to mention the dj was πŸ”₯🎢 Total was about $220 for everything we got, and honestly… worth it! πŸ’― If you’re debating it: YES, go! This is one of those places where you leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. Follow me on TikTok to see more reviews on Umami: @ Lala.Miyagi & @ Taste.It.Lala 🍴

First time here, and hands down one of the best meals I’ve had in Pittsburgh β€” and I’ve lived here all my life. On top of the incredible food, the service was absolutely out of this world from every single staff member we encountered. I highly recommend asking for suggestions when ordering because every recommendation we got was fantastic. The fish sandwich was next level. And do yourself a favor: splurge and get all three desserts. You can thank me later. Truly a 10/10 experience, and I can’t wait to come back. Thank you for such an amazing experience!

This place was delicious and super high brow! I absolutely loved the beef bowl and I swear I could eat at least three of these because of just how delicious they were! The skewers were also delicious and I regret not ordering more because of how fresh and scrumptious they are~ It’s a little bit pricey, but you’re paying for Amazing quality food put Together by talented artisans.
